Report of emergency foods delivery in Leyte island
December 2nd, 2013
On Decemeber 21st of 2013, we bought a food and transport it to Palompom of Leyte Island . We started inloading from 5 AM. It was still dark , so we had to use a right from Car and ships.
Usually, rights are equipped and we can work under the right but electricity was down at that time due to Typhoon damage.
It took a while to upload a food to large trucks and the sky started to brighten.
So, we have move towards Abihao are, and we had unladed at the Church in Abihao and started to subdivide. There were around 20 of people over there since they have already heard about supply of rice.
We first announced that supply of food would start after 10 AM, but we decided to start. Earlier from 8 AM since a lots of people had already gathered by that time.
We have delivered 5kg of rice, dry salted fishes and dry noodles.
We heard that people at the top of the que had waited from 4 AM.
The value of 5 kg of rice in Philippine is \460 ( 1kg = 39 php) , so total value of supplied food is around \600 .
The wage of the day in Abihao of Leyte is around 150php ( \350), so the value of supplied food excesses over their day income.
We have supplied for over 800 people for a first day.
Second day
We brought a food to old people in the mountainous area.
As for a national emergency support activity, government is delivering a rice by truck transport to suffered area but there were not any pre-announcement system.
So, rumor of delivery had spread first and government delivery becomes like an lottery. People who lives by the road can get the supply and they can get a lot people lives in mountainous area can’t meet trucks and they have started waiting by the road after hearing rumor of delivery.
We found lots of people are waiting by the road and we also saw same people are waiting trucks when we come back from our delivery in mountainous area after 4 hours.
He number of people was around 50 and I proposed to local staff that how about we supply the rest of our delivery in the truck to them but local staff denied it since they will be able to get a food when government truck come. So, I agreed to supply our food to the people who hardly can get government supply.
When we come back to the church in Abihao, we found that many people are coming down from mountainous area and waiting for us.
Since we left the church early in the morning, we had closed the church for that time.
So, people from mountainous area had waited more than half of the day by hearing.
That we had started food supply for the people for the mountainous area.
We have supplied the food which we had in the truck for that day.
